ASHEBORO — As intense weather swept through Randolph County, the Randolph County School System initially delayed the start of school on Monday by two hours. After assessing power outages, fallen trees and high winds, the system decided to cancel classes Monday which were scheduled to restart after the holiday break. In a statement, the system said: “Due to strong winds, power outages, and downed trees throughout the county, all schools in the Randolph County School System will be closed today.” Asheboro City Schools remained on a regular schedule Monday. Another agriculture center proposal coming to Randolph

ASHEBORO — County leaders will again be considering an agriculture center proposal which could bring development to a county-owned parcel on East Dixie Drive in Asheboro. The county bought land in 2016 with a potential agriculture center in mind. Plans for that facility were presented and considered after the land was acquired with costs estimates at $58 million. That earlier proposal would have resulted in tax increases to fund both the construction and operation of the facility. LIBERTY — Toyota Motor North America announced they will build a large-scale battery manufacturing plant in Randolph County, bringing 1,750 jobs to Liberty.
