North Moore (2-1, 1-0) ran all over Northwood (1-2, 0-1) Friday night, beating the Chargers, 38-12, in the first week of conference play.  The Mustangs overpowered the Chargers with their physicality in the run game and on the defensive side of the ball. Week two of the high school football season saw two of the three local teams go down in defeat.   Pinecrest was the lone team to record a win, moving to 2-0 on the season with a 44-20 road win over 0-2 Overhills. The Patriots have scored 92 points in their first two games. It’s their most explosive start to a season since winning the first two games of 2015 by a combined 95-8 score, en route to a 6-0 start that season that saw Pinecrest score 305 points.   The Patriots were led against Overhills by 196 yards rushing by junior…

It was a successful start to the 2023 high school football season for two of the three teams in the area. North Moore High School and Pinecrest High School both opened their seasons with non-conference wins, while Union Pines High School took a loss in the opener.   North Moore, coming off a 13-1 season last year and trip to the state quarterfinals, got off on the right foot as the Mustangs shut out Carver, 27-0, on the road. HOLLY SPRINGS — Uwharrie Charter secured its second state title in four seasons with a two-game series sweep of North Moore last weekend in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A baseball championship series. In Game 1, Uwharrie Charter edged North Moore with a 2-1 win. ASHEBORO – North Moore has earned a chance to compete for a state championship.  The Mustangs (22-8) will face the Uwharrie Charter Eagles in the best-of-3 Class 1-A state championship series beginning Friday at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs. Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 will be held Saturday. The match-up pits two schools about 25 miles apart. The players have crossed paths on the youth circuit, and both schools had entries in a fall league at Asheboro’s McCrary Park. UCA won the 2019 state title. The Fall season of high school sports is coming to an end and as postseason play starts with the NCHSAA playoffs Moore County 3 schools have had a fair share of postseason play.   In volleyball, all three public schools in Moore County made the playoffs. North Moore lost in the 2nd round of the state playoffs to Cape Hatteras in three sets. The regular season has come to an end for girls' volleyball in North Carolina. On Thursday the NCHSAA released the brackets for the playoffs, and here is where Moore County teams stand for when the playoff starts on Saturday, October 22.  In 1A East bracket North Moore is Ranked #9 and will host #24 seed North Edgecombe.
