North Moore (2-1, 1-0) ran all over Northwood (1-2, 0-1) Friday night, beating the Chargers, 38-12, in the first week of conference play.  The Mustangs overpowered the Chargers with their physicality in the run game and on the defensive side of the ball. Week two of the high school football season saw two of the three local teams go down in defeat.   Pinecrest was the lone team to record a win, moving to 2-0 on the season with a 44-20 road win over 0-2 Overhills. The Patriots have scored 92 points in their first two games. It was a successful start to the 2023 high school football season for two of the three teams in the area. ASHEBORO – North Moore has earned a chance to compete for a state championship.  The Mustangs (22-8) will face the Uwharrie Charter Eagles in the best-of-3 Class 1-A state championship series beginning Friday at Ting Stadium in Holly Springs. Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 will be held Saturday. The match-up pits two schools about 25 miles apart.
