Pinehurst native Hogan Windish is the Athlete of the Week. Windish currently plays for the Double-A Arkansas Travelers in the Texas League. He is a member of the Seattle Mariners organization after being drafted in the seventh round in 2022. Windish, who played for Ashe County High and UNC Greensboro, hit 22 home runs last year in Class A, earning him a promotion for this season. Bryant Kimbrell, a graduated senior for the Pinecrest baseball team, is Athlete of the Week. Kimbrell won Athlete of the Week after the Patriots got off to a 4-0 start to the season. Neither he nor Pinecrest slowed down after that burst out of the gate. The Patriots finished with a 24-5 record and won the Sandhills with an 11-1 league record. Will Kennedy is a senior for the North Moore baseball team who will be playing for Wake Tech at the college level next year. After playing the outfield in previous seasons, Kennedy became a two-way player in his final season. In addition to hitting over .400 for the Mustangs, he also was the Mid-Carolina Conference’s pitcher of the year. He struck out more than 50 batters and had an ERA of just over 2.30. Janie Spicer is a senior for the Union Pines’ girls’ lacrosse team and a previous Athlete of the Week winner after helping lead the Vikings to an undefeated season and their first-ever state championship. Spicer won the Most Valuable Player award in the title game, as well as the NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award. The accolades keep coming. Athlete of the Week: Wesley Little

Pinecrest boys’ lacrosse junior Wesley Little is the Athlete of the Week. The three-time conference champions have won 28 straight games in the United 8/All American/Sandhills Conference, including a 10-0 mark in the league this year. Little, the Patriots’ goalkeeper, led the conference in goals-against average and save percentage. He also finished second in the state in save percentage and sixth in goals against average. That earned him all-state and all-region honorable mentions, as well as a spot on the all-conference first team. He was also voted the team’s defensive MVP.

Janie Spicer is a senior for the Union Pines’ girls’ lacrosse team. The Vikings won their first-ever state title and wrapped up an undefeated season. Spicer led the way winning NCHSAA Most Valuable Player honors after scoring three goals, with four assists, in the championship game. She also took the NCHSAA Sportsmanship Award. Athlete of the Week: Bohdi Robertson

Pinecrest baseball’s Bohdi Robertson is our Athlete of the Week. Robertson is a sophomore for the Pinecrest baseball team. Robertson got the ball for the Patriots’ playoff opener, against Green Hope, and threw a complete game shutout for the 5-0 win. Robertson struck out eight in the 92-pitch gem and allowed just two hits and a walk. For the year, Robertson is 9-1 in 12 games and has 67 strikeouts in 46 innings while allowing less than a baserunner an inning and sporting an 0.90 ERA.

Athlete of the Week: Maddy Telemeco

Maddy Telemeco is a junior for the Union Pines girls’ lacrosse team. The top-ranked Vikings blew out Havelock, 27-0, in their second-round game in the NCHSAA playoffs. Telemeco led the way for Union Pines with 10 points in the game. She scored four goals and added six assists. She also added four ground balls and controlled six draws. Telemeco leads Union Pines in assists and shot percentage. She’s second in turnovers caused and total points and ranks third on the team in goals.

Peyton Page, a senior for the Pinecrest girls’ lacrosse team, is our Athlete of the Week. The Patriots head to the playoffs on a seven-game unbeaten streak after beating Jack Britt, 20-6 to close the regular season. Page had four goals in the win, tying for tops on the Patriots. For the season, she is second on Pinecrest in goals, assists and points. She’s also third in turnovers forced and second in ground balls.

Allie Hirst is a senior for the Pinecrest girls’ lacrosse team. The Patriots are 11-3-1, 5-2 in the Sandhills Conference and riding a three-game winning streak and five-game unbeaten streak, including a pair of victories last week. Hirst came up big in both games. In a 12-10 win over Wakefield, Hirst scored five goals and added another four assists.
