PINEHURST — Members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce came to Moore County for a Congressional field hearing about securing the nation’s energy grid on June 16. RALEIGH— Duke Energy and Randolph Electric Membership Cooperative completed repairs on Wednesday, Dec. 7 on electric substation equipment damaged in shootings that made international news in Moore County. Authorities have said the outages began shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 after one or more people drove up to two substations, breached the gates and opened fire on them. Police have not released a motive or said what kind of gun was used in the attack. REMC restores power to one-third of system after Ian

ASHEBORO — Randolph Electric Membership Corporation crews worked through Saturday night to restore power to members. By the early hours of Sunday morning, all members in Randolph, Moore, Montgomery, Chatham, and Alamance Counties had received power. During the Ian storm event, Randolph Electric experienced a total of 268 separate outages, affecting 10,736 meters or 32 percent of REMC’s total accounts served. Ian’s gusty winds, saturating rains and isolated flooding swept through the REMC service area Friday through Saturday.
