Republican Neal Jackson wins reelection for NC House’s 78th District seat

RALEIGH — Freshman Incumbent Republican Rep. Neal Jackson has defeated Democratic challenger Lowell Simon in the House District 78 race which covers portions of Moore and Randolph Counties. Results, while still unofficial, show Jackson taking in 71.63% of the vote to Simon's 28.37%. Jackson, a pastor, has served in the seat for one term having been first elected in 2022. Jackson originally took the seat in 2023 following the retirement of Allen McNeill who was District 78’s representative from 2012 to 2022. REMC restores power to one-third of system after Ian

ASHEBORO — Randolph Electric Membership Corporation crews worked through Saturday night to restore power to members. By the early hours of Sunday morning, all members in Randolph, Moore, Montgomery, Chatham, and Alamance Counties had received power. During the Ian storm event, Randolph Electric experienced a total of 268 separate outages, affecting 10,736 meters or 32 percent of REMC’s total accounts served. Ian’s gusty winds, saturating rains and isolated flooding swept through the REMC service area Friday through Saturday. With the announcement this month that Toyota Motor North America chose the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite as the location for Toyota's new $1.29 billion automotive battery manufacturing plant, there was considerable celebration. LIBERTY — Toyota Motor North America announced they will build a large-scale battery manufacturing plant in Randolph County, bringing 1,750 jobs to Liberty. Toyota will invest $1.29 billion at the Randolph County Megasite, which will initially produce batteries for Toyota’s hybrid electric vehicles and later produce batteries for battery electric vehicles in the long term. ASHEBORO — There’s an opening on Randolph County’s planning board and zoning board of adjustment after the passing of Ralph Modlin. Modlin, 69, was an Archdale man. He died Oct. 26.
