Randleman volleyball drops JV and Varsity matches to Oak Grove

ASHEBORO — The Randleman Tigers fell to the Oak Grove Grizzlies in junior varsity and varsity volleyball action Tuesday night. The JV Tigers lost in 3 sets (22-25, 25-23, 4-15) to . County teams send strong opening messages

ASHEBORO — What an opening week for Randolph County football teams. The seven football-playing schools went a combined 6-1, with the lone loss coming in the only intra-county matchup (Asheboro defeating Randleman). In the other five games, the county teams outscored their opponents by a combined score of 177-31. The most notable might have been Eastern Randolph’s whipping of Eastern Alamance, which has been a Class 3-A power for most of the past decade. SWR men’s soccer cruises past North Stanly

NEW LONDON — The Southwestern Randolph High School men's soccer team bounced back from a season-opening loss to Montgomery Central last week with a decisive 6-1 win against over the North Stanly Comets Tuesday night. The Cougars dominated possession throughout the game and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. SWR defeats Chatham Central in ladies golf

SILER CITY — The Southwestern Randolph Ladies Golf team defeated Chatham Central in varsity golf today with a nine-stroke team win. The match, played over nine holes at the Siler City Country Club, was paced by low-scorer and SWR top seed Lexi Auman who shot a 54. ASHEBORO — The Randleman Tigers traveled to Central Davidson to face the Spartans in a non-conference volleyball match. In the opener, the Tigers junior varsity team handled the Spartans 2-0 for their first win of the season. In the nightcap, Randleman's varsity team won 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18). Aside from Asheboro, county schools clustered together ASHEBORO — Randolph County schools largely got what they’ve been hoping for in the latest realignment involving the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. The new sports season begins this week and that means the area teams are clustered together in one conference, with the exception of Asheboro High School. New football season begins with chance to upgrade point totals

Getting the offenses going could be the main mission for Randolph County football teams as the season begins this week. The scheduled openers come Friday night. The 2020 season was wiped out in its traditional manner because of the pandemic. Teams played that season during the spring semester of 2021, so the offseason was shortened. Area teams will hope that was enough to figure out how to crank up the offenses. RANDLEMAN Randleman was an exception to the sluggish offenses for area teams.
