Athlete of the Week: Blake Pennington

North Moore sophomore Blake Pennington is Athlete of the Week. He has also played basketball and golfed for the Mustangs. North Moore beat Seaforth 30-20, and Pennington led the defensive effort. He had a team-high 12 tackles and three tackles for loss. He also recovered a fumble for a touchdown. Pennington leads the Four Rivers 3A/4A conference in tackles.

Athlete of the Week: Calissa Clendenin

North Moore softball senior Calissa Clendenin is Athlete of the Week. She also played basketball and volleyball for the Mustangs. Clendenin got her summer sports season off to a good start. She’s a member of the Chatham County Post 292 18-19U team. In the opening game, she went 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Clendenin led North Moore in hits, RBIs, steals and doubles last season and was second in batting and on-base percentage. She will continue her softball career in college at Pfeiffer.

Athlete of the Week: Ansley Preslar

North Moore softball sophomore Ansley Preslar is Athlete of the Week. The Mustangs are off to a 4-1 start to the season, and Preslar has been a force at the plate so far. In a 22-13 win over Southeast Alamance last week, she hit two home runs, doubled, scored three runs and drove in seven. She followed that up a hit and two runs against Jordan-Matthews. With five homers on the young season, Preslar leads all of NCHSAA. She’s also seventh in the state in RBIs and leads the Mid-Carolina Conference in slugging and runs.

Athlete of the Week: Brandon Powell

Sportsathlete of the week, Brandon Powell, North Moore, north moore football, North Moore High School, North Moore Mustangs

North Moore football senior running back Brandon Powell is Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The Mustangs won their second straight game after an 0-4 start, blowing out Bartlett Yancey 55‑22 last Friday. North Moore didn’t throw a pass in the game, rushing for 488 yards. Powell had more than half of them, carrying 23 times for 269 yards, an average of 11.7 yards per carry. He also scored six touchdowns. Powell is the state’s No.3 rusher at the 1A level and leads the Mid-Carolina Conference.
