MT. AIRY – Uwharrie Charter Academy’s season ended in boys’ soccer with a 4-2 loss to host Mt. Airy on Monday night in the third round of the Class 1-A state playoffs. “We’ve had an amazing season, the best season our school has ever had,” UCA coach Nathan Russell said. “We gave it our absolute all. Asheboro tops the list as a No. 4 seed in the West Region bracket for Class 3-A. The Blue Comets (14-1-3) take on North Lincoln in the first round. Uwharrie advances to fourth round in volleyball playoffs

ASHEBORO — Uwharrie Charter Academy's volleyball team has advanced to the fourth round of the Class 1-A state playoffs after a 25-21, 25-18, 24-14 victory against visiting Gray Stone Day School on Thursday evening. During the third set, Athlete of the Week Gabi Greene scored six straight points from serve. Greene also had 12 kills, Madi Duval supplied seven kills and two blocks, Bre Brooks posted six kills and two blocks and Dacia Lowery added four kills and two blocks. The Eagles have swept all three playoff matches. UCA (20-5) travels to Murphy (22-2) for Saturday's next round.

GABI GREENE Uwharrie Charter Academy | Senior | Volleyball The senior outside hitter was a key contributor as the Eagles won all four of their matches. The first three triumphs came on consecutive days in the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament as UCA was a surprise winner. Then came the opening round of the Class 1-A state playoffs against Andrews. Greene was charted for a total of 51 kills, 41 digs, 11 aces, seven blocks and strong serve receiving in those matches.

PREP ROUNDUP: UCA wins PAC Tournament in volleyball; Providence Grove runners claim titles

Third-seeded Uwharrie Charter Academy upset top-seeded Southwestern Randolph to win the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament for volleyball Wednesday night. The Eagles won 24-26, 16-25, 25-23, 25-13,15-13 against the host school. UCA swept Trinity and Randleman earlier in the week to reach the final. Southwestern Randolph, which swept Wheatmore in the semifinals after a first-round bye, had been undefeated in PAC play. The Cougars received 29 kills and nine digs from Payton Shiflet, 22 digs from Coley Shiflet and 19 digs from Carleigh Whitson. Raegan LeRoy added 39 assists and 17 digs.
