Pinecrest tennis player, Marshall Landry, won the state 4A NCHSAA State Individual Singles Championship this past Saturday at the Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh. Landry beat Lake Norman’s Ellis Klanduch to claim the title. This photo was taken at the conference tournament on April 29 held at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines.

From conference championships to deep runs in the state playoffs, Moore County athletics sets the bar for competitiveness in nearly every single sport. Here’s a rundown of the notable records and achievements among the schools. In baseball, North Moore High School captured the Mid-Carolina 1A/2A Conference title after finishing with an overall record of 16-2 and 8-0 in conference play. The Fall season of high school sports is coming to an end and as postseason play starts with the NCHSAA playoffs Moore County 3 schools have had a fair share of postseason play. In volleyball, all three public schools in Moore County made the playoffs. North Moore lost in the 2nd round of the state playoffs to Cape Hatteras in three sets. The regular season has come to an end for girls' volleyball in North Carolina. On Thursday the NCHSAA released the brackets for the playoffs, and here is where Moore County teams stand for when the playoff starts on Saturday, October 22. In 1A East bracket North Moore is Ranked #9 and will host #24 seed North Edgecombe. North Moore finished the season 12-13 after losing to Seaforth in the conference semifinals in 5 sets 3-2. WHISPERING PINES — Alec Allred of Whispering Pines is making a career out of baseball, and it’s not on the field. BURLINGTON — Pinecrest couldn’t dent Charlotte Providence’s perfect season, but the Patriots left the Class 3-A baseball state finals with an experience worth savoring. Senior Games registration is open

SOUTHERN PINES — Registration for the 39th Annual Senior Games in the Pines is underway through March 25. The games are sponsored by the Moore County Senior Enrichment Center along with the Southern Pines, Aberdeen, Pinehurst and county recreation departments and are an official preliminary competition for the North Carolina Senior Games. Competitions begin March 31 and run through May 12. The competition includes bowling, swimming, golf, tennis, badminton, pickleball, running among other individual and team events. The games also include performing, literary and visual arts. The state finals will be held in September and October.
