HUDSON: Working for you

HUDSON: Working for you

“How does this impact you?” That’s the question I ask myself before considering every bill I introduce, cosponsor, or vote on as your Congressman. With our new Republican majority in place, we have hit the ground running this year—and we will not slow down. From stopping soft-on-crime policies, defending the Second Amendment with my Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, protecting our strategic oil reserves, standing up to socialism and the Chinese Communist Party’s use of a spy balloon over U.S. territory, and voting to end COVID-19 vaccine mandates—House Republicans have delivered results for you and families across the country. Following a…

State of our Union: Hardworking American families are paying the price

State of our Union: Hardworking American families are paying the price

Just like our great nation, the State of the Union address has a unique history surrounded by traditions and pageantry. In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson gave the first in-person address since the 18th century. President Harry Truman’s address was the first to be broadcasted on television in 1947. In 1982, President Ronald Reagan invited the first guest to sit in the gallery and be referenced in his speech. The State of the Union has evolved from an address only given to leaders within our government to one that incorporates and is delivered to you, the American people. Regardless of politics,…

BORTINS: Universal educational vouchers is not a winning policy

BORTINS: Universal educational vouchers is not a winning policy

Don’t believe the press releases from universal school voucher enthusiasts ― it wasn’t a winning message in the swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona this past election. The GOP should abandon expanding taxpayer-funded school choice and focus on empowering parents, not expanding the reach of more government. The GOP will be making a big mistake if they decide to enact universal taxpayer-funded school choice policies, which will increase dependency on the government and normalize welfare for all. Exit polls show that three main groups vote for Democrats ― single women, people with advanced degrees, and welfare recipients. Those who…

HUDSON: Love thy neighbor

HUDSON: Love thy neighbor

“Love thy neighbor.” It’s one of the most important commands found in the Bible. And last week, we saw it in action in our community. The reprehensible attack on two power substations in Moore County left hospitals, health care providers, schools, businesses, and nearly 40,000 homes without power for several days. Thanks to the incredible efforts of hardworking men and women from Duke Energy, Randolph Electric Membership Corporation, the NC Department of Transportation, as well as state and county officials, law enforcement, and emergency personnel, Moore County was able to restore power by Wednesday while keeping families safe. I cannot…

HUDSON: As we navigate the power outage, check on one another

I wanted to provide an update on the power outage affecting much of our region in Moore County. Over the weekend, an unknown individual or individuals vandalized at least two power substations in Moore County with criminal intent, leaving numerous hospitals, schools, businesses, and close to 40,000 residents without power. The motive for this crime remains unknown, but law enforcement continues to investigate. I want to thank Sheriff Ronnie Fields and all local law enforcement, as well as the State Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for their quick action to respond to the incident. I have…

GINGRICH: Balance the budget, stop inflation, create jobs

GINGRICH: Balance the budget, stop inflation, create jobs

The new Republican majority in the U.S. House will face a major challenge dealing with the Democrat-run White House and U.S. Senate. So, it is vital that Republicans offer a vision of a more successful, prosperous, safer, and freer America. The first goal is not to find a common ground with left-wing, radical Democrats who reject virtually all our values. They are already tuning their political machine to fight us in 2024. The first goal is to give the American people a sense of hope — and a belief that things can be dramatically better. (The lack of a positive…

THOMPSON: Small Business Saturday

THOMPSON: Small Business Saturday

Black Friday is the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season, but with its doorbusters and discounts, I think it’s become of time of grabbing rather than of giving.  If you’re looking for the holiday spirit, go shopping the next day, Small Business Saturday.   Small Business Saturday, which is always on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, is a day to find unique gifts and enjoy a level of service you probably won’t find at the national chains, but it’s also a day to help the local shops and restaurants that do so much to help their communities throughout the year. …

HUDSON: A commitment to America

HUDSON: A commitment to America

“For we are given power not to advance our own purposes, nor to make a great show in the world, nor a name. There is but one just use of power, and it is to serve people.” This quote from former President George H.W. Bush reminds us that the sole purpose of political leadership is to serve the people and develop solutions to the problems most important to you. Unfortunately, many of those who have been entrusted with leading this nation have forgotten this responsibility and have instead used their positions to pursue their own agenda. President Joe Biden and…

KRUEGER: The Cobra Effect

KRUEGER: The Cobra Effect

It seems like Democrat leaders are lacking common sense and an understanding of history.   What President Joe Biden, his Democrat minions, and his media lapdogs have instead is a massive spending agenda masked in Orwellian newspeak.  They blithely and disingenuously refer to their $737 billion prodigal plan as an Inflation Reduction Act, their $ 2.2 trillion spending spree as Build Back Better, and their $350 billion spendthrift scheme as the American Recovery Act.  According to economic experts at the Penn Wharton Business School, the Inflation Reduction Act will have little to no effect on inflation.  The Congressional Budget Office…

HUDSON: The problem with socialism

HUDSON: The problem with socialism

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” This famous line by former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher reminds us that while government handouts may sound good, someone still has to foot the bill. Despite inflation remaining at a 40-year high, last week, President Biden announced his plan to unilaterally “cancel” hundreds of billions of dollars in federal student loan debt. This gimmick is little more than an attempt by Biden to boost his abysmal and well-deserved approval rating and will likely worsen our nation’s dire economic condition. What’s more, this debt will not…
