It was a successful weekend for high school football teams in the county, as squads representing Moore County went a perfect 3-0 in Week Three.   In addition to North Moore’s win over Northwood, Pinecrest and Union Pines both landed in the win column on Friday.   Pinecrest moved to 3-0 on the season with a 27-24 win over Middle Creek, dropping the Mustangs to 1-2 on the season. North Moore (2-1, 1-0) ran all over Northwood (1-2, 0-1) Friday night, beating the Chargers, 38-12, in the first week of conference play.  The Mustangs overpowered the Chargers with their physicality in the run game and on the defensive side of the ball. It was a successful start to the 2023 high school football season for two of the three teams in the area. North Moore High School and Pinecrest High School both opened their seasons with non-conference wins, while Union Pines High School took a loss in the opener.   North Moore, coming off a 13-1 season last year and trip to the state quarterfinals, got off on the right foot as the Mustangs shut out Carver, 27-0, on the road. RAMSEUR — A week off prior to opening the state playoffs might be a good omen for Eastern Randolph’s football team. ASHEBORO — The first round of the Class 2-A state playoffs didn’t go well for Randolph County teams. All three of the entries had their seasons end with losses. That included home games for Providence Grove and Southwestern Randolph. At Climax, Providence Grove fell 27-26 in overtime to Forest Hills, when a failed two-point conversion play resulted in the season ending. RANDLEMAN — It took a record-breaking performance for Southwestern Randolph to win its latest football game. And that could mean more records for the Cougars this season. Southwestern Randolph overcame host Randleman for a 28-23 victory Friday night. Junior receiver Adam Cole scored two touchdowns to set the single-season school record for victories.
